Jangssi Haenyeo-jip and the Yeonhwa-ri seafood guide

Jangssi Haenyeo-jip (장씨해녀집) has been serving haenyeo cuisine from the same spot in Yeonhwa-ri, Gijang, Busan for 51 years. The mother, a 72-year-old active haenyeo (female free-diver), prepares each morning's catch by hand, and her son runs the floor and the kitchen. If this is your first visit, keep the four signatures in mind (Badaduul, Stone-pot Abalone Porridge, Haenyeo Rice Set, Butter-grilled Abalone) and ordering will feel effortless.

This dining hub is not just a list of restaurants. It is a walkthrough of Yeonhwa-ri itself, the small haenyeo village by the sea. You will find the loop that connects from Haedong Yonggungsa Temple and the Blueline Park, the 250-car free public parking right in front, and recommended courses sized for couples, families, and corporate dinners.

Every linked article is written from real visits and direct customer reviews. Prices, hours, parking, and directions are checked on-site once a month. First-time visitors should look at the four signatures and the FAQ first. Menu choices and travel logistics get noticeably easier after that.

Four signatures to meet here

Badaduul (Sea Set Two)₩66,000

Seven sashimi cuts plus two rustic-cut platters

Abalone, sea pineapple, sea cucumber, spoon worm, boiled octopus, live octopus, and conch on one platter, alongside flatfish and grey mullet rustic sashimi. The most common first-visit order for a party of 2 to 3.

Stone-pot Abalone Porridge₩12,000 / person (minimum 2)

Live abalone simmered right at the table

The most-ordered breakfast item. Abalone going into the pot comes from the day-of live stock. Soft, deep, and filling in a single bowl.

Haenyeo Rice Set₩35,000

Seaweed bibimbap and hand-pulled noodle soup

A meal-focused set with seaweed bibimbap (wakame, kelp, hijiki) and house-made kalguksu noodles. A good pick when you want a full meal without alcohol.

Butter-grilled Abalone₩32,000

Cooked with the inner liver for a rich, savoury depth

Slow-cooked in the kitchen with butter (kitchen pan, not charcoal: please ignore any contrary description). Rich and rounded with a clean finish.

Frequently asked questions

Where exactly is Jangssi Haenyeo-jip?

28-1 Yeonhwa-gil, Gijang-eup, Gijang-gun, Busan. Yeonhwa-ri main store. About 5 to 7 minutes by car from Haedong Yonggungsa, and 25 to 30 minutes from Haeundae. Naver Maps and Google Maps both find it accurately with the search term "장씨해녀집".

What are the opening hours?

Open every day from 09:00 to 20:20 with no break time. Last orders close around 20:00. Weekdays, weekends, and public holidays follow the same schedule, but the Lunar New Year and Chuseok periods may shift.

Do I need to arrange parking separately?

No. The Yeonhwa-ri public lot right in front of the store has 250 free spaces, so weekend lunches and dinners stay manageable. Families and group bookings drive in without trouble.

Do you take reservations?

Small parties are walk-in by default. Groups of 8 or more and corporate or family gatherings should call ahead. Walk-in waits can run long, so weekday lunch is the easiest slot.

It is my first visit. What should I order?

For a party of 2 to 3, Badaduul (₩66,000) lets you taste seven sashimi cuts and two rustic platters at once and is the safest choice. For breakfast, the Stone-pot Abalone Porridge (₩12,000 per person, minimum 2) is deep and filling. The Haenyeo Rice Set (₩35,000) is best if you want a full meal without alcohol.

Can I come with kids?

Yes, no age limit. The kalguksu in the Haenyeo Rice Set and the abalone porridge are favourites with younger guests. Room availability depends on party size, so letting us know the head count in advance helps seating.

I am not great with raw fish. Can I still enjoy it?

Yes. The Butter-grilled Abalone (₩32,000) is cooked in the kitchen with butter, so guests sensitive to the sea-fresh smell of sashimi do well with it. The Stone-pot Abalone Porridge is soft enough that it also works for anyone who struggles with raw seafood.

How do I get there by public transport?

The easiest route is a short taxi (about 8 to 10 minutes) from Gijang Station on the Donghae Line. From Haeundae, bus 39 or 100 to Yeonhwa-ri stop, then a 5-minute walk. Travelling without a car is comfortable.
